Day 3 – Declutter your books

Welcome back to day 3 of the challenge, today will be an easy day for me and a harder day for some people. Today I went through all of the books I own including textbooks and notebooks.

I have a small three shelf bookshelf in my bedroom and each shelf has a different purpose. The middle shelf holds all of my books, textbooks, and notebooks. I started out today’s challenge by getting them all off the shelf and putting them on my bed where I could see them all at once.

My guiding questions for today are:

Have I already read this?

Did I love it enough to read it again?

Will I ever get around to reading it?

Do I know someone else who might like this book?

Do I have to return this book to someone?

I only own five books, all of which I decided to keep for now. A vegan cookbook I recently got to help me decide on healthy meals, Sark Joy by Marie Kondo which I lend out on occasion, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People which I plan on finishing and giving away, The Glass Castle which was a graduation gift from a high school teacher, and finally my favourite book ever, The Book Thief.

After being a college student for three years you would think I would have a lot of textbooks, but I don’t. After each semester I sold my textbooks, so the ones I do still have are ones I am still using, or decided to keep to future reference.

I do have a few notebooks that I use on a regular basis. One is a self-care activity notebook I have created, one is a travel journal, one is a sketchbook, one is for lists, and two are for religious purposes. I also have my new weekly planner, which I talked about in a previous post! All of these notebooks have a purpose to me so I will be keeping them until they are done, are which point I usually decide whether to recycle them or keep them for future reference depending on the contents and therefore I never buy expensive notebooks.

I ended today’s challenge by dusting the shelf and placing the books back where they belong.

Tomorrow’s challenge is decluttering your paper,  so please check in for that!

And if you are doing the challenge as well tell me how it is going for you in the comments below!
