Over the past year, a lot has happened for a lot of people. To me it all just kind of feels like one big blur. But in all of that time and with all of the stuff that happened, the good and the bad came lessons. No matter what happens in life there is always something to be learned from it, and these are just a few of the things I learned in 2018.
Friends come and go
Throughout life we make friends and often it may seem like those friendships will never end. We grow to love the company of these special people in our lives and seeing them every day becomes a part of a routine that we believe will go on forever and ever. One day might be the last day that you get to hang out with these people. Maybe you knew it was coming to an end because one of you was moving, or maybe you didn’t. Maybe you stopped to say hi one last time without knowing it would be the last time. The truth is you will never be friends with the same people that you started out with forever, as people change and friendships fade. But with the end of these friendships come opportunities for new ones to open. This year a lot of people I loved left, but along the way, I met new people who taught me some valuable lessons and helped me through some hard times.
Nothing lasts forever
No matter how bad it seems it probably won’t last forever. This year I went through some things and I thought it was never going to end. But this taught me that situations are temporary. Maybe you are really sad right now because of the situation you are in, I was that way this year. One of my Professors told me a quote when I was going through this difficult time, “In all of nature, no storm can last forever.” One day things will get better, they may not be perfect, because life isn’t perfect, but it gets better.
You are worth it
2018 was a difficult year for me in a lot of ways, but one of the biggest lessons I learned is that I am worth the effort. I never thought it was worth it to try to make my situation better. I never thought it was worth making changes. Maybe you are in the same boat I was in and you need to hear this, I think everyone does from time to time. You are worth the effort.
You have to take chances
Sometimes if you really want something to change in your life you have to take a leap and take a chance. It might be risky, and who knows if I will work out in the end, but if you gave it your best shot then it was worth it.
You have to follow what your heart is saying
If you are in a situation and your heart is telling you it isn’t right, then it isn’t right. You need to make a change. This might mean taking a chance to make that change, but you are worth it. You have to take action in order for your life to go the way you want it to go. If you never try, you’ll never know if it would have worked out. You have to follow what your heart is telling you if you want to be happy.
Happy New Years everyone! I hope you have a great night tonight and stay safe! I’ll see you back here for The 30 Day Simplify Your Life challenge on January 1st!
