Time is one of the most valuable tools we have. Many of us feel as though we don’t have enough hours in our busy days to complete all of the tasks we need to get done. Many people feel like they have too much time on their hands and don’t know what to do with it. In this post, I want to talk about getting intentional with our time and how we use it.

At the beginning of each week, usually on a Saturday, I like to sit down with my Google Calendar and organize everything I have to do for the week. I put everything I have in my reminders, notes, and appointment cards into my calendar, and cancel anything I don’t need anymore. It is important to stay organized and on top of your schedule, especially if you are going through a busy time.

Everyone has that experience of trying to get work done but having their mind be somewhere else. Blocking out distractions is the easiest way to get back to work and get the job done. One of our main distractors today is social media, while it can be also used as a tool. Getting app blockers can help, there are plenty of options on the app stores. For other distractions try doing a brain dump. Write down less important tasks to do later so that you don’t need to think about them right now. This helps you to focus on the task at hand.

Sometimes getting things done can be a task in itself, I find it helps to put a time limit on things. If I give myself ten minutes to complete a certain task it motivates me to actually do it and reminds me that the task won’t last forever and I can move past it once it is done.

If you have time to wait before you head out the door to go to school or work, do a few things! If you have time between classes get some work done. If you have time to wait at a doctors appointment, organize your day planner. Use the time you would normally spend waiting for the next task to get things done so you aren’t cramping later.

Actually schedule in time to relax, time to be with people you love, and time to do what lights you up. Make these things a priority in your life, and treat them like you would a doctors appointment, physically schedule time into your planner for these things. It is important to do the things that make you happy.
