GIFT GIVING AND MINIMALISM

In this post, I want to give you guys some gift ideas for minimalist, since it is the gift-giving season, but this can apply to any gift-giving event. As minimalists, a lot of us dread the holiday season because it means new stuff is almost certainly going to be entering our lives and our homes.  Even when we tell people not to get us anything, or just some cash, we can still end up with a bunch of new possessions we didn’t have before. This doesn’t mean we are ungrateful by any means. It can just be a bit overwhelming when our overall goal is to live a simplified life with less stuff. So here are some ideas of what to get the minimalist in your life.

AN ONLINE COURSE SUBSCRIPTION

Nothing is like the gift of knowledge, so why not sign your minimalist friend up for an online course starting in the new year? These courses often don’t take up more than a few hours a week and there are hundreds of websites out there with thousands of courses to choose from.

IN PERSON COURSES

Kind of following the last one, learning a new skill makes a great gift. In person, classes can be just as powerful, if not more powerful then online ones. You could sign your minimalist friend up to learn watercolor painting, pottery making, woodworking, or an infinite number of other things. To make it even more fun you could both sign up and learn together!

SOMETHING ONE OF A KIND

Make your minimalist friend something handmade and one of a kind, something they could never find anywhere else. Something that really means something, and they will appreciate it.

THE GIFT OF MEMORIES
Take them out for lunch one afternoon, or dinner. Go see a movie together, or go out and play in the snow. Collect some memories, not things.

YOUR TIME

In the end, time is the most valuable thing we have. Sharing a little bit of our time with a person is the best way to show we care.

And now, I open up the comments to you guys! What are your favorite ideas for minimalist gifts? What did you think about this post? Do you have any suggestions for future posts?

  1. We forget that holidays arnt supposed to be about giving gifts but being with each other, very well said on that time is valuable and that being with loved ones is more important then giving meaningless gifts.
